JAYAPURA - The Papua Volleyball Team made it to the final after winning a fierce duel against West Java, Wednesday (19/7/2023) night.
The victory was obtained in a four-set battle, in the semi-finals of the Women's Volleyball of Pornas XVI Korpri Central Java.
The Papuan team won 3-1 with scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-21, at Jatidiri Sports Center, Semarang.
An exciting duel has been presented between Papua versus West Java since the first set. West Java, which is said to be a potential champion, plays calmly and is able to serve Papua.
However, Papua was able to close the set with a 25-22 victory.
West Java began to rise in the second set. The pressing game demonstrated by the team from the representative of Java island was able to overthrow Papua in set two. Papua lost 23-25.
The Papuan team in the third set turned to press from the start. As if not wanting to repeat the mistake in set two, Papua immediately hit the gas to close the score 25-15.
The increasingly confident Papuan team finally won over West Java with a score of 25-21.
For this positive result, Korpri Papua Women's Volleyball Coach Frengki Saweri is optimistic that his team can achieve the best results. Although the opponent in the final is the host Central Java.
"We are optimistic even though the opponent is the host. Because what we are aware of West Java we can pass."
"We will focus on the final match and ask for prayer support for all people and civil servants in Papua," said Frengki.
Head of the Korpri Papua Contingent, Aaron Rumainum was proud of the result. The victory of Papua Volleyball over West Java also became a booster for other players who failed.
"Hopefully the Papuan Women's Volleyball will donate medals to the Papuan contingent. This is medicine for other players who have not contributed medals."
