JAYAPURA – The Marine and Fisheries Service (DKP) of Papua encourages the process of validating capture fisheries statistical data, carried out regularly and continuously. So, the local government has a valid database to support development in the relevant sector.
"We want an accurate and transparent database that can also explain the source and truth of the data."
"The process of validating capture fisheries production data is an inspection step to ensure the data is in accordance with the criteria set in the amount of fish production landed at fishing ports, also at fishing centers and fish landing sites," explained the Head of Papua Marine and Fisheries Service, Iman Djuniawal, Friday (15/9/2023).
Still said by Iman, his agency recently carried out a capture fisheries statistical data validation activity which was attended by State Civil Apparatus in district and city fisheries offices of coastal areas.
The activity presented speakers from the Central Statistics Agency of Papua, the statistical function of the Directorate General of Capture Fisheries, the Statistical Data Center of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and 8 statistical validators of Coastal Districts / Cities as well as enumerators at 3 (three) Fishing Ports in Papua Province.
All participants present agreed to encourage the validation process of fisheries statistical data needs to be continuously updated.
"Certainly, this effort to validate fisheries statistical data is also to support Indonesia's national one data policy as one of the efforts to improve data quality, unify data, and open data access for the wider community."
"On the other hand, public information disclosure is also a demand of the times that must be addressed and anticipated by providing accurate data and information for the general public," he said.
The same was conveyed by the Head of the Capture Fisheries Section of Papua Marine and Fisheries Service, Agus Rahmawan. According to him, the process of validating capture fisheries statistical data must be carried out regularly. "This capture fisheries production data validation activity is also a way to measure regional performance, especially the Papua marine and fisheries service together with related agencies in districts/cities, the extent of implementation and application of programs and activities that have been designed," Agus said.
On the other hand, he continued, as one of the efforts to monitor and evaluate the capture fisheries activity program that we have done.
"Whether it has achieved the target or not, against the target of increasing capture fisheries production which is the target of marine and fisheries development mandated by the MMAF and the Papua Provincial Government."
"In essence, this capture fisheries statistical data validation activity is carried out to produce outputs that can be used as a formulation and basis for planning and developing marine fisheries and fisheries statistics in Papua and nationally," he concluded. ***
