SERUI - Acting Governor of Papua Muhammad Ridwan Rumasukun during his second-day working visit to Yapen Islands Regency, Thursday (19/10/2023) morning, handed over aid in the Floating Net Cage, Kabuena, South Yapen District, Serui. He handed over three units of outboard motors, Fish Production Facilities for seaweed development and seaweed tissue culture seeds.
"Earlier, the Governor handed over assistance from the 2023 Special Autonomy fund in the form of three units of outboard motors, and three seaweed development cultivation packages (in Amtomoy, Sarawandoro and Ambai). Then the seaweed seeds go through a tissue culture system placed in the Sarwandori nursery." "They handed over outboard motorcycles to three fishery business groups in Meredi, Ambai and Yantemoi," explained the Head of the Papua Marine and Fisheries Service, Iman Djuniawal, on the sidelines of the visit.
The waters of Kabuena, South Yapen District, Serui, Yapen Islands Regency had previously been designated as a cultivation village as per the Decree of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. That way, the Head of the Iman Djuniawal Office hopes that the government will immediately build a Fishing Port in the local area to support community economic development activities. More specifically, seaweed and Barramundi fish commodities are expected to become export commodities for Yapen Islands Regency in the future.
"Kabuena will become an integrated production center area because there is already a Fisherman Fuel Station (SPBN) and the Papua Provincial Government's plan to build cold storage to store fish production." "We ask for support in optimizing the seed unit in Kabuena so that it can operate immediately. The fish seeds such as Barramundi can be seeded there," he hoped. ***
