JAYAPURA - The Papua Provincial Government appealed to the residents to immediately report the findings of unusual commodity price spikes to the local Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID), for immediate anticipatory action.
This was conveyed by Acting Assistant for Economic Affairs and People Welfare, Suzana Wanggai, after reviewing the activities of the cheap food movement (GPM), at the Autonomous Office, Kotaraja, Jayapura City, Wednesday (20/3/2024).
"If there is a report, it will be followed up immediately. Even the staff always monitor directly in traditional and modern markets to anticipate price spikes," explained Suzana.
Suzana still said that currently, the Papua Provincial Government involves 16 business actors in the activities of the cheap money movement, to maintain the stability of the supply of related commodities and meet public demand during the month of Ramadan.
The activities of the cheap food movement are also to maintain the price of these commodities, so as not to soar up or cause inflation.
"Because soon Muslims will enter the religious holiday of Eid. We together with the National Food Agency, Baznas, Logistics Agency, Aprindo and other relevant agencies collaborate to maintain price stability."
"Of course, this isa form of collaboration and synergy to provide services to the community," she said.
Head of the Food Crops and Horticulture Office Samuel Siriwa said the food commodities sold at the GPM event were shallots, garlic, large chili, cayenne pepper, rice, cooking oil and several other household needs.
He ensured that he would still hold the program of the cheap food movement at some point, to help the people of Cenderawasih Earth who were fasting, including Christians who would later enter Easter. ***
