JAYAPURA - Acting Governor of Papua, Ramses Limbong seeks to pay bonuses for athletes who win medals at the Aceh-North Sumatra PON, which will be handed over no later than January 2025.
This was conveyed by Limbong, at the dissolution of the Papuan contingent participating in the 2024 Aceh-North Sumatra PON, at the Sasana Krida, Governor's Office, Soa Siu Dok II, Jayapura City, Monday (7/10/2024).
"The handover of rewards for medal-winning athletes and coaches will be handed over in January 2025. We try to take care of December 2024 and it will be realized in January," he explained.
However, Limbong has not been able to confirm the amount of value that will be handed over. Because they are still waiting for the results of the Papuan contingent who competed in Peparnas.
"Regarding the bonus in the 2025 regional budget, we have prepared, but the amount will not be the same as the previous year. For the exact nominal, we will wait for Peparnas because the bonus is the same."
"The point is that after the Papua National Guard contingent goes home, the team will evaluate how much gold, silver and bronze. From there, there is a simulation and then determines the value," he said.
The Governor hopes that the bonuses that will be handed over can be received by the athletes considering the current financial condition of the Papua Provincial Government which is not enough to set aside a budget for outstanding athletes. Even so, the provincial government still pays attention to outstanding athletes in Papua.
It is known that in the Aceh-North Sumatra PON performance, Papua won 19 gold, 26 silver and 23 bronze medals. Papua Province finished 13th on the quadrennial agenda. ***
