JAYAPURA - The Papua Provincial Election Commission officially held an Open Plenary Meeting to recapitulate the results of the calculation of votes for the 2024 Papua Governor and Deputy Governor Elections at one of the hotels in Jayapura City. In his remarks, Steve Dumbon emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in this plenary. He also said that the provincial-level plenary will verify the recapitulation result from the district/city before it is passed.
"This process is the culmination of the election stage. We hope that all parties can support so that the plenary runs smoothly and peacefully," said Dumbon.
However, until 4.30 p.m no regency/city had submitted the results of the vote recapitulation to the province so the plenary meeting was temporarily suspended, waiting for a report from the district/city.
Regarding the votes that have been released by several sites scattered on social media and the WA Group, only the General Election Commission is authorized to issue official results. He also emphasized the readiness to face a lawsuit against the election results if it occurs, while still complying with the existing legal mechanism.
The Acting Governor of Papua was also present at the opening of the plenary, expressing his appreciation for the implementation of the Regional Elections which ran safely and orderly.
"We would like to thank all parties who have ensured that this Regional Election runs well, even though some places have to carry out Re-Voting (PSU). This is part of the dynamics of democracy, and we are confident that the General Election Commission will handle it according to the applicable rules," said the Acting Governor.
He also gave appreciation to the security forces who have carried out their duties of maintaining stability during the election process. "Thank you to the security forces who have worked hard to keep the situation conducive. This effort is very helpful in ensuring that people can exercise their voting rights safely," he added.
The recapitulation process at the provincial level continues the previous stages at the District Election Committee (PPD) level at the deadline of December 3, 2024, and the plenary at the district/city level is scheduled to be completed on December 6, 2024. The official results of the provincial plenary will be announced by the General Election Commission on December 9, 2024. ***
