JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government has taken several measures to boost employment amid a sluggish economy and to anticipate potential layoffs (PHK).
The head of the Papua Provincial Communication and Informatics Agency, Jeri Agus Yudianto, stated that among the measures taken are strengthening Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through coaching and partnerships.
“MSMEs are a sector that can absorb a significant number of workers,” said Jeri on Monday (April 14).
Another effort includes encouraging the 28,000 MSMEs in Papua to process their business permits, enabling them to scale up. In addition, continuous workforce training is being provided to equip workers with relevant skills.
“Layoffs are the very last option. Therefore, we carry out periodic assistance with businesses and workers to avoid disputes and ensure that both parties fulfill their rights and responsibilities,” Jeri explained.
Furthermore, the provincial government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining price stability through regional inflation control.
This effort is considered essential to preserving people’s purchasing power amid ongoing global and national economic challenges. ***
