JAYAPURA – The Head of the Papua Provincial Education Office, Christian Sohilait, believes that the main issue in today's education is not the curriculum but the character development of students.
"Our problem today is character. It's a part of a person's life. For example, when a student doesn’t greet an elder, that already reflects their character," said Sohilait.
He emphasized the importance of instilling good habits from an early age, as reflected in the movement “Seven Habits of Indonesian Children.”
These habits include waking up early, eating a nutritious breakfast, praying, exercising, and socializing.
"All of these are part of character building. If we want to change education, we must start with character," he stated.
According to him, character development is the key to reducing dishonest practices in the education system.
"If children’s characters are well-formed, then crimes involving children can be reduced," Sohilait added. ***
