JAYAPURA – Acting Governor of Papua, Ramses Limbong, stated that Papua has not been significantly affected by mass layoffs, as the majority of the population relies on the agricultural sector.
“We’re not impacted by layoffs because our productivity lies in agriculture, unlike in Java, where most people are factory workers,” said the Governor.
However, he acknowledged a decline in hotel occupancy rates in Papua. This is due in part to budget efficiency measures and the establishment of new autonomous regions, which has reduced administrative visits to Jayapura.
As a solution, the Papua Provincial Government will focus on two key areas:
Enhancing agricultural productivity as a leading regional sector.
Promoting sports events and large-scale activities to attract more visitors and boost hotel occupancy.
“By hosting various sports events, we can stimulate the regional economy, especially in the hospitality sector,” he concluded. ***
