By the end of 2024, a total of 48 locations will benefit from free internet services, comprising 40 churches and 8 mosques.
The program is set to expand in 2025 with a target of 72 additional locations, including 40 churches, 5 mosques, and 27 village offices.
Additionally, the Papua Provincial Government has ensured that the 82 VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) units installed in 2024 at schools and public facilities in areas with limited or no commercial operator coverage continue to operate optimally.
As a follow-up, in 2025, VSAT services will be deployed at 250 new locations, all situated in areas with little or no internet coverage from commercial operators. These sites are prioritized for educational facilities, places of worship, and public services in remote villages.
“This program is not just about internet access. It’s a strategic step toward comprehensive digital transformation in Papua. With improved connectivity, it aims to open up new economic opportunities, strengthen education, and support more efficient public services,” said Jeri, Head of the Department of Communication and Informatics.
This initiative is also expected to provide the people of Papua with access to various digital-based services, such as local e-commerce platforms, online training, telemedicine, and the development of tech-based micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
With a vision of an inclusive and connected Papua, the Provincial Government is committed to making internet access a basic right and a bridge to a more prosperous future for all citizens of the Land of Cenderawasih. ***
