JAYAPURA – Yohanes Walilo, Assistant I for Government and Public Welfare, attended a site visit to review the readiness for the Phase I inauguration of the Sekolah Rakyat in Papua Province. The visit took place at the Center for Social Welfare Education and Training (BBPPKS) Jayapura on Thursday, June 12, 2025, where the school is scheduled to be officially inaugurated by President Prabowo.

The visit was also attended by several heads of regional government agencies from both the Papua Provincial Government and the Jayapura City Government, along with Willya Indriani and Riyan Neba from the Presidential Secretariat, and John Herman Mampioper, Head of BBPPKS Jayapura.

The Sekolah Rakyat comprises four learning groups with a total of 300 students, including one student with a visual impairment.

John explained that what differentiates Sekolah Rakyat from other boarding schools is that the state is responsible for every aspect of the student’s daily life — from waking up, eating, studying, to sleeping — all under supervision. Moreover, the students' parents will also benefit from community empowerment programs, helping improve their economic conditions while their children's abilities grow.

All school facilities — including dormitories, classrooms, laboratories, and other supporting infrastructure — are standardized nationally, ensuring consistency across regions.

To minimize delays caused by the delivery of supporting equipment, mitigation efforts are being implemented. However, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) representatives, the construction is assured to remain on schedule. ***
