JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government, through the Inspectorate, is monitoring illegal levies in schools, especially during the new student enrolment period.
Acting Papua Inspector, Danny Korwa, stated that the monitoring is not only carried out by his office, but also involves urging Inspectorates at the regency/city level to do the same.
One area of their supervision at the provincial level involves parents registering their children in high schools, particularly those under the jurisdiction of the Papua Provincial Government.
“If there are illegal fees, please report them to us,” he stressed.
Danny also reminded that farewell parties should not be held at schools. However, there are still students who are willing to organize such events.
“This is quite a dilemma, but it’s best not to hold them,” he said.
He further urged schools not to impose any fees that could be considered illegal and would burden the students' parents.
“Because the government guarantees that public schools are free of charge,” he concluded. ***
