JAYAPURA – The Papua ProvincialGeneral Election Commission held a Dialogue and Discussion Forum on the implementation of the Revote following the Constitutional Court’s ruling on the results of the Papua Governor and Deputy Governor Election. This event served as a strategic platform to align the readiness of election organizers, local government, and the public to ensure the revote is conducted democratically, safely, and with active participation. (July 2)
The event was attended by representatives from the General Election Commission of the Republic of Indonesia, Papua Provincial General Election Commission, Acting Governor of Papua, Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, Election Supervisory Board and other stakeholders.
Chairwoman of Papua General Election Commission, Diana D. Simbiak, stated that her office is currently finalizing key revote stages, including:
The formation and inauguration of ad hoc election bodies at the district and polling station levels,
The campaign period has been ongoing under regulations while awaiting the next technical stages,
Election logistics are in the process of being procured and distributed gradually to revote areas.
“We continue to work closely with local governments and security forces to ensure all stages are carried out on time, transparently, and accountably,” she said.
In his remarks, Acting Governor of Papua Ramses Limbong emphasized the importance of every element’s role in ensuring the success of the revote. He called on the public, organizers, traditional leaders, and authorities to work together in maintaining a peaceful and constructive democratic climate.
“I urge us all to reflect on our respective roles and responsibilities to ensure a fair and honest revote. We receive daily reports and updates on logistics readiness to ensure timely distribution, especially to remote areas,” he explained.
The Acting Governor also stressed that the General Election Commission and the Election Law Enforcement Center (Gakkumdu) must act professionally in anticipating potential disputes or violations; public outreach efforts must be intensified, particularly in explaining PSU procedures and the importance of voter participation; and, as per the Constitutional Court ruling, the Final Voter List (DPT) to be used remains based on the previous election, without changes. The number of voters may decrease due to various technical factors.
On this occasion, Chairman of the General Election Commission of the Republic of Indonesia, Mochammad Afifuddin, expressed appreciation for the synergy between election organizers and the local government in preparing for the Papua revote. He noted that Papua is one of only three regions that will hold a revote, while two others will repeat their local elections.
“We encourage active involvement of traditional leaders, religious leaders, and community figures to urge citizens to come to the polling stations on August 6, 2025. To support the preparedness of election personnel, technical and ethical training programs are also being conducted at all levels,” he emphasized.
This dialogue served as a collaborative momentum to ensure that the Papua Governor and Deputy Governor's revote will run smoothly, fairly, and with dignity. All parties are committed to upholding the quality of democracy in Papua for a better future. ***
