JAYAPURA – After serving as acting governor in three different provinces, Agus Fatoni has once again been entrusted with leadership—this time in Papua. He was officially inaugurated by Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian in Jakarta on Monday (July 7, 2025).
Fatoni previously served as Acting Governor of North Sulawesi in 2020, then South Sumatra in 2023. Most recently, he briefly led North Sumatra before being appointed to replace Ramses Limbong in Papua.
During the inauguration, Minister Tito described Agus Fatoni as a highly experienced figure, particularly in regional governance and financial management. He expressed hope that Fatoni's experience would serve as a valuable asset in leading Papua, which has its unique challenges.
“He has served multiple times as acting governor, so he’s very familiar with the rhythm of regional administration,” said Tito.
Tito also urged Fatoni to immediately establish communication with Papua Regional Leadership Coordination Forum and all elements of society.
Fatoni is currently also serving as the Director General of Regional Financial Development at the Ministry of Home Affairs. In that role, he has been actively involved in the supervision and evaluation of Papua’s regional budget management.
In his remarks, Fatoni expressed his commitment to working swiftly and collaboratively. “We aim to build a solid government that is responsive and focused on serving the people,” he said. ***
