JAYAPURA – Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, fully supports the readiness for the Repeat Election of the Governor and Deputy Governor scheduled for August 6, 2025, to ensure all revote stages run smoothly, safely, and on time. This was conveyed during an audience with the Papua Provincial General Elections Commission at the Papua Governor’s Office, Jayapura, Papua, on Thursday (July 10, 2025).
Fatoni provided several strategic directions as a form of support from the Papua Provincial Government for the smooth implementation of the General Elections Commission. One measure to anticipate crowds is that the debate between the candidates for Governor and Deputy Governor will be broadcast live on social media platforms.
“This step is taken so that all citizens can watch the debate of the Governor and Deputy Governor candidates from anywhere, including from home. The goal is to avoid crowds and maintain the neutrality of the organizers,” said Fatoni.
In addition, Fatoni emphasized the importance of massive socialization regarding the revote implementation. This is intended to increase public interest in coming to the polling stations on August 6.
“The public must know when and where the revote will take place. Socialization must be intensified through social media, mass media, and even the provincial government’s video Tron,” said Fatoni.
Fatoni also gave serious attention to the validity of data and the technical stages of revote implementation. He requested all parties to ensure that every step is carried out carefully and thoroughly to avoid technical errors that could disrupt the revote process.
Furthermore, Fatoni stated that the Papua Provincial Government is ready to fully support the revote process, both technically and in terms of resources. He also encouraged holding a Peaceful Regional Election Declaration involving candidates, the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, and election organizers as soon as possible.
“I urge that the Peaceful Regional Election Declaration be held immediately, involving all candidate pairs, Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, General Elections Commission, and Election Supervisory Board. This is important as a shared commitment to create a safe, peaceful, and conducive atmosphere during the revote in Papua,” said Fatoni.
On the same occasion, Chairperson of Papua General Elections Commission, Diana D. Simbiak, explained the readiness of the General Elections Commission to hold the revote. This readiness includes the preparation of administration, logistics distribution, and other technical preparations. ***
