JAYAPURA – Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, urged improvements in the governance of regional governments to prevent misuse of authority, deviations, and corruption crimes. This statement was made during the Coordination Meeting on Asset Management, Optimization of Regional Taxes, Monitoring, Controlling and Surveillance for Prevention (MCSP), and Strategic Goods and Services Procurement (PBJ) for the Papua Government at the Papua Governor’s Office, Jayapura, Papua, on Thursday (July 10, 2025).
Fatoni said one of the efforts to prevent corruption is through the MCSP program initiated by the Corruption Eradication Commission. This program aims to strengthen supervision and prevent deviations as well as corruption crimes within local governments.
“Eradicating corruption is not only through enforcement but also prevention. We want to close all spaces where corruption could occur,” said Fatoni.
Besides the MCSP program, Fatoni also highlighted the management and optimization of regional assets. He asked all ranks of the Provincial/Regency/City governments to pay attention to improving asset governance, including its utilization.
“This also includes managing assets from the parent province—from Papua to provinces, regencies, and cities—which also needs to be resolved. I have heard that Central Papua has achieved 100%, and we hope that South Papua and Highland Papua will be completed this year,” he said.
On this occasion, Fatoni also encouraged regional governments to innovate and improve the quality of Human Resources to enhance governance, which is expected to impact revenue growth, especially Regional Original Revenue.
“So, to all ranks of the provincial government, Regional Government Work Unit that have revenue sources and targets, please pay close attention to optimizing this,” Fatoni explained.
“Therefore, various efforts can be made, including optimizing the motor vehicle tax. The main source of regional revenue in the province, especially Regional Original Revenue, comes from motor vehicle taxes,” he added.
Finally, Fatoni called on all stakeholders to align perceptions and maintain solidarity in the joint effort to realize transparent and integrity-based governance.
“Eradicating corruption is the responsibility of all of us, not just one institution,” he emphasized. ***
