JAYAPURA – Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, called on all elements of society to work together to ensure the implementation of the Repeat Election for the Governor and Deputy Governor proceeds peacefully, fairly, and honestly. This message was delivered during the Handover Ceremony of the Acting Governor of Papua at the Papua Governor's Office, Jayapura, Papua, on Thursday (July 10, 2025).
"Our shared task shortly is the implementation of the revote, which will take place on August 6. Therefore, we invite all parties to help make it a success," said Fatoni.
Fatoni noted that national attention is currently focused on Papua, as it is the only province holding the revote. For this reason, he urged all religious leaders, community figures, and stakeholders to actively encourage citizens to exercise their voting rights.
“We also hope that all religious leaders, community leaders, and government figures will jointly urge all eligible voters to come to the polling stations on August 6 and use their right to vote according to their own choice,” Fatoni explained.
“Let’s use our right to vote. Our vote truly matters, because it will determine who our next leader will be. Don’t waste this opportunity—it only comes once every five years. Let’s maximize voter turnout and encourage everyone who is eligible to vote,” he added.
Furthermore, Fatoni reminded all civil servants to remain neutral and professional in overseeing the democratic process. He stressed the importance of maintaining integrity, solidarity, and a conducive public atmosphere.
“I also want to remind all civil servants, all civil servants working in the government, to continue working professionally and neutrally, to stay on the right path, and to uphold integrity and solidarity while helping to maintain a peaceful environment within the community,” said Fatoni.
He expressed hope that this revote would be the last and would quickly result in a definitive Governor and Deputy Governor to continue the development efforts in Papua.
“To avoid further revote, let’s safeguard the process. The election organizers—General Elections Commission and Election Supervisory Board—have already been consulted, and it’s now up to all of us as citizens to ensure there are no violations, no mistakes, so that the civil servants on August 6 will be the final ones,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the same hope was expressed by the previous Acting Governor of Papua, Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Ramses Limbong. He said that whoever wins the upcoming gubernatorial election is the rightful choice of both the people and God.
“I hope it will be the final revote on August 6. Whoever wins between the two candidates is the will of the people and the will of God. My one goal is to see the people of Papua become better— that’s all I hope for,” he said. ***
