JAYAPURA – The Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, participated in his first Friday prayer with the people of Papua. The prayer was held at Asy-Syura Mosque in Jayapura, Papua, on Friday (July 11, 2025).
This moment of communal prayer marks Fatoni's first step toward building a close relationship with the public and religious leaders since his inauguration on July 7, 2025.
He expressed sincere appreciation to the mosque management, preachers, and religious figures for their vital role in nurturing the spiritual lives of civil servants and the local community.
“I extend my gratitude to all mosque administrators, preachers, and religious leaders who have kept worship activities alive and meaningful at this mosque. The presence of religious leaders strengthens the spiritual and moral foundation essential for carrying out government duties,” said Fatoni.
Fatoni reaffirmed his dedication to continue managing the government, enhancing public services, and promoting fair development across Papua. He also highlighted that all government processes will proceed smoothly with the support of all community members.
During the event, Fatoni also reminded the public about the upcoming re-vote for the Governor and Deputy Governor of Papua, scheduled for August 6, 2025. He called on religious leaders and the broader community to help maintain stability and peace.
“We all share the responsibility of ensuring the re-vote runs smoothly. Let’s make this re-vote a success by fostering a calm, peaceful, and brotherly atmosphere. The role of religious leaders is crucial in setting good examples and spreading tranquillity among the people,” he emphasized. ***
