JAYAPURA – To build a positive image and improve transparency in government performance, the Papua Provincial Communication and Informatics Agency held a coordination meeting with website and social media managers from the Regional Work Units within the Papua Provincial Government. (July 14)
This initiative follows the initial directive of the Acting Governor of Papua, emphasizing the importance of an active local government presence in digital spaces to communicate programs and achievements credibly to the broader public.
Led directly by the Acting Regional Secretary of Papua, Suzana Wanggai, the meeting aimed to align perspectives and strengthen the commitment of the Regional Work Unit to managing digital communication channels professionally and cohesively.
In his report, Head of Papua Provincial Communication and Informatics Agency, Jeri A. Yudianto, explained the current status of the Regional Work Unit website and social media management:
• Only some of 40 Regional Work Units actively manage their websites.
• Several Regional Work Units lack websites or do not update information regularly.
• Although some Regional Work Units have social media accounts like Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), TikTok, and YouTube, many have not yet published content publicly.
Jeri underscored the importance of social media accounts as tools to increase public interest in official Regional Work Unit websites, which serve as each agency’s digital front door.
“The more performance information of the Regional Work Unit is shared through official channels, the more public trust and understanding of Papua’s development will grow. It also helps counter hoaxes with official data and facts,” said Jeri.
In her speech, Acting Regional Secretary Suzana Wanggai emphasized:
“Every Regional Work Unit must have and manage a website and social media accounts. The technical details will be sorted out together, but the principle is clear—there are no exceptions. As budget users, we are required to inform the public about our work under existing regulations.”
Suzana also appreciates that the Papua Provincial Communication and Informatics Agency has a quick response in carrying out the Acting Governor’s directive through this strategic initiative.
“I appreciate this event and urge immediate action—there’s no reason to wait,” she stressed.
This activity represents a joint effort to strengthen communication synergy across the Regional Work Unit, aiming to foster a government that is more open, informative, and adaptable to the challenges of the digital era. ***
