JAYAPURA – Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, along with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, continues to strengthen coordination and communication among regional leaders, without being confined to a formal setting. This informal gathering was held as a “Coffee Talk” event at the State Building in Jayapura, Papua, on Thursday (July 17, 2025).
“This kind of meeting is intentionally held. I received a message and directive from the Minister of Home Affairs that coordination and communication don’t always need to happen in a formal atmosphere. In fact, in a relaxed setting like this, many important matters can be discussed more openly,” said Fatoni.
Fatoni added that fostering camaraderie in an informal setting allows for broader discussions and the emergence of solutions to various regional issues.
“Hopefully, this kind of gathering can continue. Let’s maintain this unity so that our duties run smoothly and become easier,” Fatoni said.
He noted that such informal activities have taken place in various regions, and even after his assignments ended, communication and relationships remained strong. Fatoni said this meeting was also a strategic moment ahead of the upcoming regional elections and the Repeat Voting, expressing hope that all election stages would proceed safely, smoothly, and successfully.
“We hope that there will be no more PSUs. Hopefully, this is the last revote, and we can soon have a definitive governor and deputy governor,” he emphasized.
In his closing remarks, Fatoni expressed appreciation for the presence of the leaders of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, encouraging continued communication and synergy, both through formal and informal meetings like this one.
“Hopefully, our unity can also be seen by the public. This is our Regional Leadership Coordination Forum—united—and that’s important for motivation. I also keep encouraging the public to share positive news about Papua,” Fatoni explained.
“It’s not just about carrying out development or doing our work—we also need to promote it to show that the state is present among the people. We also have to show the community that we are working,” he added.
On the same occasion, Commander of the XVII/Cenderawasih Regional Military Command, Major General TNI Rudi Puruwito, welcomed the activity initiated by Acting Governor Agus Fatoni. Regarding the revote scheduled for August 6, he shared the same hope that it would run safely, smoothly, and successfully.
“Everyone hopes that there will be no more revote. So we hope the upcoming revote will go safely, smoothly, and successfully,” he said.
The event was also attended by the Acting Regional Secretary, the Commander of the XVII/Cenderawasih Regional Military Command, the Chairperson of the Papuan People's Assembly, the Speaker of the Papua Regional House of Representatives, the Air Force Base Commander, the Naval Base Commander, the Head of Regional Intelligence, representatives from the Papua High Prosecutor’s Office, the Chief Judge of the Jayapura High Court, and other guests. ***
