JAYAPURA – Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, visited the Regional Revenue Agency office of Papua Province to directly observe performance and service facilities. During this visit, Fatoni also reminded Bapenda staff to continue working on increasing Regional Original Revenue through innovation and strengthening regional tax governance.
“I want to ensure that the public service process at Bapenda runs smoothly, quickly, transparently, and with accountability. Because success in increasing Regional Original Revenue greatly depends on the quality of service and the system implemented,” said Fatoni at the Papua Provincial Bapenda Office in Jayapura, Papua, Friday (July 18, 2025).
During the visit, Fatoni was welcomed directly by the Acting Head of the Papua Province Regional Revenue Agency, Yosefina Fransina Way, along with her staff. They presented several interim achievements in revenue realization as of July 18, 2025, and various innovations made in digitalizing tax payment and service systems.
“If necessary, we can even implement outreach-based innovations that go out to the public—there will be rewards for that. If it's possible to provide services on weekends or at night, then that can be done too,” said Fatoni.
As is known, Vehicle Tax and Motor Vehicle Title Transfer Fee (BBNKB) are now subject to PKB and BBNKB revenue sharing (opsen).
Fatoni emphasized the need to strengthen digital systems, data integration, and increase synergy between Bapenda, related agencies, and regency/municipal governments to explore local tax potential optimally and sustainably.
“There needs to be cooperation, followed by MoUs, and socialization with regents/mayors because through this revenue sharing (opsen), they (local governments) will directly receive regional income. If the cooperation is well established, it can boost Regional Original Revenue,” explained Fatoni.
Fatoni also encouraged Bapenda to continue educating and informing the public and business actors about taxes, as well as building public trust to raise tax compliance awareness. On this occasion, he also reminded the public not to forget to pay their taxes, as the government has provided tax relief policies.
“The Papua Provincial Government has provided local tax relief policies, in the form of waiver of penalties and a 30 percent reduction in vehicle tax principal for overdue payments, valid from May 15 to August 29, 2025,” he explained. ***
