SENTANI – Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, carried out working visits to various regions, including Keerom Regency and Jayapura Regency. During the visits, he called on the public to continue preserving Papua’s positive image and reputation.
“In the digital space, we must counter hoaxes and hate speech with positive narratives about Papua—so the world knows that Papua is safe, tolerant, and orderly,” said Fatoni at the Jayapura Regent’s Office, Jayapura, Papua, Friday (25/07/2025).
He encouraged people to actively use social media to share uplifting and constructive information.
“We also urge everyone to use social media wisely. Those who have social media—let’s share good and positive information,” Fatoni stated.
According to him, social media is a powerful tool for spreading positive news. He invited the community to use various platforms to promote kindness and positivity online.
Fatoni also reminded the public not to miss their chance to vote in the upcoming Repeat Election scheduled for August 6.
“As we all know, the Repeat Election will be held on August 6. I encourage everyone eligible to vote to come to the polling stations and use their voting rights wisely,” he said.
He further encouraged people to bring along family members, friends, colleagues, and neighbors to vote. This is in line with a Circular Letter issued by the Papua Provincial Government, which designates August 6, 2025, as a public holiday for the Repeat Voting of the Governor and Deputy Governor in the province.
“The Repeat Voting only happens once every five years—let’s not waste this opportunity to choose Papua’s leaders for the next five years,” Fatoni emphasized.
Additionally, Fatoni stressed the importance of supporting both provincial and local governments to ensure effective development efforts.
“Once a leader is elected, we must support them together and also oversee the administration so it operates according to the rules,” he added.
He also highlighted the importance of maintaining a peaceful and conducive atmosphere, particularly in Keerom Regency. One key way to do this is by avoiding the spread of hoaxes, which can damage unity and harm social harmony.
“We must preserve and nurture a conducive environment—because it accelerates development and improves community welfare,” he concluded. ***
