JAYAPURA — A total of 32 students from seven regencies and cities in Papua have been selected as members of the provincial-level Heritage Flag Hoisting Troop (Paskibraka). They will undergo intensive training ahead of the 80th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day. These participants were chosen through a rigorous selection process held recently. They are considered the best representatives of their respective regions.
The official opening of the Paskibraka education and training program took place on Monday (July 28, 2025), led by Papua Provincial Government’s Assistant I to the Regional Secretary, Yohanes Walilo.
“This is a source of pride for these young students representing their regions,” said Walilo, who also serves as Chairperson of Papua’s 80th Independence Day Anniversary Committee.
According to him, the participants were selected from among thousands of students across Papua. He urged them to take the training seriously.
“Absorb all the materials from the trainers and apply them during practice,” Walilo advised. He expressed hope that all participants would carry out their duties effectively.
The training program will last for 19 days, requiring strict discipline and strong physical readiness from the participants.
“Take care of your health during the training,” he emphasized. The organizing committee has prepared backup participants in case someone is unable to continue.
Trainers were asked to give their full commitment and provide the best guidance to the students until the peak celebration on August 17.
This year’s participants come from Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Keerom, Yapen Islands, Biak, Sarmi, and Waropen. Supiori and Mamberamo Raya did not send any representatives due to technical constraints. ***
