SERUI—The Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, commended the peaceful and harmonious environment in Yapen Islands Regency during his official visit to the Regent’s Office in Serui. His visit comes ahead of the Repeat Voting for the Governor and Deputy Governor of Papua, scheduled to take place on August 6, 2025.
In his remarks, Acting Governor Fatoni emphasized that the conducive atmosphere in the Yapen Islands is a key foundation for the successful implementation of the re-vote, as well as for the continuation of development and economic progress in the region.
“Thank you for maintaining such a conducive climate in Yapen. With this atmosphere, we can carry out the re-vote, facilitate economic activities, and continue our development efforts,” said Fatoni.
He further encouraged all stakeholders and citizens to preserve the existing peace and unity by rejecting division, provocations, hoaxes, and hate speech.
“Let us maintain, preserve, and continuously remind each other of this safe, peaceful, and tolerant environment. Though we may differ, we remain united,” he added.
As the PSU draws near, Fatoni called on residents to actively participate by exercising their voting rights on August 6.
“Don’t waste this opportunity. Come to the polling stations and cast your votes. Let’s also invite our family, neighbors, and colleagues to do the same,” he urged.
During the same event, Yapen Islands Regent Benyamin Arisoy confirmed the local government’s readiness to support the smooth execution of the re-vote. According to the latest data, the regency has 77,875 registered voters and 230 polling stations spread across various areas.
“Election officials are fully prepared. We are continuously conducting socialization, technical guidance, and training in collaboration with the General Elections Commission,” said Regent Benyamin.
Despite existing limitations, the regional government remains committed to ensuring the success of the re-vote.
“While we face certain constraints, we are dedicated to supporting the election organizers to guarantee a successful and peaceful re-vote for the Governor and Deputy Governor in Yapen Islands Regency,” he concluded. ***
