BIAK — As part of the commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, officially launched a Fun Walk event in Biak Numfor Regency. The event took place at the Gelanggang Remaja Sports Field in Biak and was attended by thousands of enthusiastic residents.
“Today we are kicking off the 80th Independence Day celebration here in Biak Numfor Regency, along with the start of the Healthy Walk event,” Fatoni announced as he flagged off the crowd of walkers.
In his address, Fatoni expressed appreciation for the peaceful and harmonious atmosphere in Biak Numfor, highlighting the community's spirit of tolerance and togetherness. He encouraged residents to protect this harmony and promote positive narratives, particularly through social media.
“Let us continue to safeguard our unity and spread positivity through social media. Use it to showcase the good things happening in Biak Numfor and Papua. Let the world see our spirit,” he said.
Fatoni also used the occasion to remind the public of the importance of participating in the upcoming Repeat Voting for the Governor and Deputy Governor of Papua, scheduled for August 6.
“Don’t miss this important moment—it only comes once every five years. Let’s choose our leader wisely and exercise our right to vote,” he urged.
Acting Regional Secretary of Biak Numfor, Zacharias L. Mailoa, expressed gratitude for Fatoni’s presence and support, noting the event’s significance in bringing the community together.
“More than 7,000 residents and students joined the Fun Walk. We’ve also seen strong support from various stakeholders, who contributed numerous prizes to boost participants’ enthusiasm,” said Zacharias.
