JAYAPURA – Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, attended a Coordination Meeting on the Preparation for the Re-Vote for the Governor and Deputy Governor Election in Papua Province. The meeting took place at Swiss-Belhotel Jayapura. (August 4, 2025)
In his remarks, Fatoni emphasized that the success of the Re-Vote is a shared responsibility. He encouraged all stakeholders and the public to work together to ensure smooth and peaceful implementation.
“I thank the Deputy Minister, who confirmed that Papua is ready for the Re-Vote. The government will continue to provide full support and necessary facilities,” said Fatoni.
He also called on the public to actively participate by going to polling stations on August 6 and exercising their voting rights. “Let’s maintain peace, unity, and a spirit of tolerance throughout the process,” he added.
Also present was Deputy I for Domestic Political Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Heri Wiranto, who leads the National Monitoring Team for the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections. He stated that the Re-Vote in Papua, Boven Digoel, and North Barito is ready to proceed securely and democratically.
“The central government has deployed teams to directly monitor these regions as part of our commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the democratic process,” said Heri.
The Papua Provincial Government, in coordination with the General Election Commission and Election Supervisory Board, has finalized preparations, including logistics, budget support, and security. The Indonesian Armed Forces and National Police have also declared readiness to secure the election.
The re-vote is expected to run peacefully and under democratic principles. The public is encouraged to participate and help maintain a conducive environment.
“We hope this re-vote will be safe, peaceful, democratic, and orderly. Public participation is crucial in electing regional leaders who truly represent the people’s will,” he concluded. ***
