JAYAPURA – The 80th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia was commemorated solemnly at the provincial level in Papua, with a ceremony held at Mandala Stadium, Jayapura, on Sunday (August 17, 2025).
Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, who served as the Inspector of the Ceremony, expressed his gratitude for the blessing of Indonesia’s independence.
“In Papua, we can enjoy this independence, and we celebrate it with joy,” Fatoni said.
A series of activities, including competitions and cultural events, were organized to mark the occasion, all carried out in an orderly, safe, and smooth manner.
Fatoni called on the community to maintain a conducive atmosphere, uphold tolerance, and preserve peace and security.
“This is something we must safeguard, protect, and nurture together, as it forms the foundation for development and the welfare of our people,” he emphasized.
The raising of the Red and White flag was performed by Papua’s finest youth, members of Paskibraka, who had been officially inaugurated by Acting Governor Fatoni the previous day, Saturday (August 16). ***
