JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government expressed hope that the launch ofPapua’s Transformation, a book by Yohannes Nusi, will inspire the younger generation to actively write and document Papua’s history.
Matias Mano, Expert Staff to the Governor of Papua for Development and Finance, said young people need to convey their perspectives on Papua through written narratives, not only through oral traditions.
“Papua should not only be passed down orally but also documented in books. This Papua’s Transformation book serves as an inspiration for young Papuans,” he stated.
According to Matias, Papua’s history and journey must be thoroughly documented to ensure they become an integral part of national development, particularly toward the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045 (Golden Indonesia 2045).
He emphasized that cultivating a culture of reading and writing is the first step for the younger generation to contribute to the nation’s literacy and knowledge space.
“If they are not yet able to write, at least they should read more. Even better if they can rewrite, so that Papua’s changes over time are well recorded and preserved,” he added.
Matias further highlighted that the challenges and shortcomings that still exist in Papua should be seen as opportunities for future transformation, reinforcing Papua’s role as an important part of Indonesia’s development. ***
