JAYAPURA – Rice prices in Papua remain relatively stable despite increases in several areas. Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, assured that stock availability is sufficient to prevent significant price hikes.
During a surprise inspection in Jayapura City on Friday (August 22, 2025), Fatoni found that some modern retailers were still selling rice at previous prices due to remaining old stock. However, in several other places, prices had risen by IDR 2,000–3,000 per kilogram.
“The most important thing is that stock continues to flow from warehouses to markets. If supply is smooth, we can maintain stable prices,” Fatoni said.
The rice stock at the Papua Logistics Agency Warehouse currently stands at 10,000 tons, sufficient to meet demand for the next four months. Additionally, there are 75 tons stored in private warehouses and 300 tons at Jayapura Port.
Agus stressed that the regional government, together with the Logistics Agency, local agencies, and private stakeholders, will continue to oversee distribution.
“This effort is aimed at ensuring rice availability and preventing excessive price surges,” Fatoni stated. ***
