JAYAPURA – Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, stated that the demonstration held at the Papua Regional House of Representatives and Papua Regional Police on Monday (Sept. 1) was safe, peaceful, and orderly. He also expressed appreciation to all Papuan citizens who participated responsibly.
“We appreciate the people of Papua for expressing their aspirations in an orderly manner. This reflects a level of democratic maturity that we must uphold together,” Fatoni said on Tuesday (Sept. 2, 2025).
He encouraged Papuans to continue maintaining order and unity, and to prioritize dialogue when conveying their aspirations.
“Let us work together to realize Papua is peaceful, prosperous, and advanced, with a spirit of brotherhood and unity,” Fatoni concluded.
The demonstration, attended by around 300 participants, took place in front of the Papua Regional House of Representatives building. Demonstrators were received directly by the leadership and members of the Papua Regional House of Representatives. The Speaker, Denny Hennri Bonay, expressed appreciation for the students’ peaceful conduct.
“We at the Papua Regional House of Representatives are committed to monitoring and following up on all aspirations that have been conveyed,” he stated.
During the demonstration, the Cipayung Plus Group of Jayapura City presented 11 demands concerning humanitarian issues, justice, and law enforcement. The group then proceeded to the Papua Regional Police.
Papua Police Deputy Chief Brig. Gen. Pol. Faizal Ramadhani emphasized that the police would receive all submitted aspirations and work with students to ensure a safe and stable Papua.
“Overall, the security situation in Papua remains safe and conducive,” he added. ***
