JAYAPURA – Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, has called on all religious leaders in Papua to hold joint prayers. This initiative aims to strengthen unity, foster inner peace, and maintain regional stability.
“I invite and urge all religious leaders in Papua to come together and hold prayers collectively, both in their respective houses of worship and in interfaith gatherings,” Fatoni said at the State Building, Jayapura, Papua, Thursday (Sept 4, 2025).
“This activity is intended to ensure that Papua and our beloved nation remain safe, peaceful, and harmonious, so that people may live happily, coexist peacefully, and maintain harmony among us all,” he continued.
The initiative is not directed at one particular religion but embraces all faiths in Papua. According to Fatoni, as a multicultural province, Papua can demonstrate the spirit of brotherhood through collective prayers for shared well-being.
“Hopefully, our beloved Papua will become a peaceful Papua, we are proud of, and a prosperous Papua,” Fatoni stated.
On this occasion, Fatoni also expressed his gratitude to all elements of society, including religious leaders, traditional leaders, provincial and local government officials, as well as the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the National Police, for maintaining a safe, peaceful, and conducive environment in Papua.
“We must safeguard and nurture this peaceful and harmonious Papua, which allows us to carry out our activities today and in the days to come. We must continue to protect and preserve this safe and harmonious Papua so that everyone can go about their daily lives,” Fatoni said.
Furthermore, Fatoni urged the public not to be easily provoked or provoke others, especially through hoaxes and hate speech.
“Let us continue to preserve and safeguard unity, peace, and harmony in this beloved province,” he appealed.
“Let us work hand in hand to build the Papua we all love,” he added. ***
