JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government has pledged full support for the tug-of-war team from Papua that will compete at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.
The support was marked by a send-off ceremony led by Acting Regional Secretary of Papua, Suzana Wanggai, at the Papua Governor’s Office courtyard, coinciding with the commemoration of National Sports Day on Friday (Sept 12, 2025).
The team, consisting of 10 male and female athletes, will compete in five categories in the tug-of-war sport. This year marks the first time tug-of-war is officially contested at the SEA Games.
Acting Regional Secretary Suzana Wanggai conveyed a message to the team to maintain unity, discipline, and fighting spirit.
“Today we send off the Papua tug-of-war contingent representing Indonesia at the 2025 SEA Games. We hope the team can perform at their best and bring home achievements for the nation,” said Suzana.
She emphasized that the participation of Papua’s athletes in this international event not only brings honor to the country but also serves as a source of pride for the region.
“What you have trained for will be shown there—that Papua is great,” she added.
“May all athletes remain healthy from Jayapura to Thailand. Uphold the good name of Papua and Indonesia,” Suzana concluded. ***
