JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government held a Farewell and Welcome Ceremony for Acting Governor of Papua for the 2025 period, Agus Fatoni, together with the newly elected Governor and Deputy Governor of Papua, Matius Fakhiri and Aryoko Rumaropen. The event marked a historic moment symbolizing a leadership transition and celebrating the successful re-voting and inauguration of Papua’s new leaders.

In his remarks, Agus Fatoni, Acting Governor of Papua for the 2025 period, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to all Papuans for maintaining a peaceful and democratic election process.

“Today we celebrate Papua’s victory. We rejoice because we now have a definitive governor and deputy governor. I congratulate all Papuans for successfully choosing leaders who will bring Papua toward a better, more advanced, more prosperous, and brighter future,” said Fatoni during the Papua People’s Festival held at the Papua Governor’s Office in Jayapura on Friday (October 31, 2025).

He also emphasized the importance of maintaining the spirit of unity and cooperation across all levels of government and society.

“From the lowest to the highest levels, government must be supported so it can function effectively. The leaders we have chosen are leaders for all of us. We must move forward together to advance Papua,” Fatoni stated.

On that occasion, Fatoni also highlighted the significant progress achieved across various sectors, including the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)—a tangible reflection of the economic vitality of the Papuan people at the start of this new administration. He encouraged everyone to uphold Papua’s good image and reputation while promoting its natural resources and cultural diversity to the world.

“We are proud to have made new history—the recent re-voting was the safest and most successful election in Papua’s history. We have proven to the world that Papua has matured democratically. This is something we must continue to preserve,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Papua, Matius Fakhiri, expressed his deep appreciation for Agus Fatoni’s dedication and contributions during his tenure as Acting Governor.

“Mr. Agus Fatoni did an extraordinary job during the re-voting process. We extend our highest appreciation to the 2025 Acting Governor of Papua, Mr. Agus Fatoni, who carried out his duties with sincerity and intelligence—laying a strong foundation for governance and successfully leading Papua through the democratic process up to our inauguration,” said Fakhiri.

He also paid tribute to previous Governors and Acting Governors who had greatly contributed to Papua’s development.

“Let us never forget the service of our predecessors. We can build Papua today because of the foundations they laid. Without them, Papua might not have advanced this far,” he added.

The ceremony took place in a warm and joyful atmosphere, attended by members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, community leaders, traditional and religious figures, as well as various elements of Papuan society. ***
