JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government, through Governor Matius D. Fakhiri, officially launched the Free Christmas and New Year Ship and Bus Ticket Program for the people of Papua at the Governor’s Office on Monday (December 8).
The free tickets will be implemented simultaneously starting on December 17, 2025, covering sea routes from Jayapura Port to Biak Port, Numfor Port, Yapen Port, Waren Port (Waropen), and Kasonaweja Port (Mamberamo Raya).
Meanwhile, land transportation routes will pass through Jayapura Regency–Sarmi Regency–Senggi– Taja–Biak and Supiori.
“I want to emphasize that there must be no favoritism. This program is intended for the general public. It must be distributed fairly—everyone, without exception, must have access,” Governor Fakhiri stressed.
He also reminded officials that the free homecoming tickets must be distributed evenly so residents can return home to celebrate Christmas with their families without unnecessary difficulties.
“At the same time, the public should be informed about the return schedule,” he added.
Regarding the mechanism for obtaining the free homecoming tickets, technical arrangements will be handled by the transportation operators, namely the Provincial Transportation Agency and other relevant stakeholders.
However, Governor Fakhiri emphasized that effective public outreach is crucial so that people clearly understand how to access the free service.
“I ask that the public be served properly. If not, everyone can be accommodated, clear explanations must be provided. Those who cannot be accommodated this year should be considered for the following year,” he concluded. ***
