JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government began the 2026 working year with its inaugural assembly of civil servants within the Papua Provincial Government on Monday, January 5, 2026. The assembly served as a moment for consolidation and performance evaluation following the long year-end holiday.
Papua Governor Matius Fakhiri said the beginning of the year should be used to rebuild discipline, work spirit, and solidarity among all civil servants. He stressed the importance of starting the year with better planning and measurable work.
"I hope this inaugural assembly provides new motivation for all civil servants and officials to work better in 2026," the Governor said.
According to Fakhiri, 2026 must be a period of improvement based on both the achievements and shortcomings of the previous year's performance. He urged civil servants to be willing to conduct evaluations from the outset so they do not repeat the pattern of work piling up at the end of the fiscal year.
"The shortcomings of 2025 must be addressed starting now. We must no longer work in a rush at the end of the year," he said.
On the occasion, the Governor also handed over the Budget Implementation Documents to all regional apparatus organizations. He reminded them that budget implementation must be carried out in accordance with programs, planning, and applicable legal provisions.
"The DPA has been received. Study it carefully and prepare a solid work plan. Do not work outside the program, because the risks will become the responsibility of each official," Fakhiri stressed.
The Governor also expressed appreciation for the high attendance rate of civil servants on the first working day despite the rainy weather. He said he hoped that spirit could be maintained and have a direct impact on improving the quality of public services throughout 2026.
"This early-year motivation must be maintained so that services to the public can run optimally," he said. ***
