JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government has recorded early achievements in the health sector during the first 100 days of the Governor and Deputy Governor of Papua's 2025–2030. Through Jayapura Regional General Hospital (RSUD Jayapura), the government has introduced some specialist services that were previously limited in Papua as part of efforts to strengthen referral care.
Papua Governor Matius Fakhiri said that since being inaugurated on October 8, 2025, the regional government has made improving health services a top priority. Within 100 days, RSUD Jayapura began providing advanced medical procedures with a direct impact on the public.
"Within the first 100 working days, RSUD Jayapura has already introduced cancer radiotherapy services, pacemaker implantation, haemodialysis access surgery, as well as treatment for rare diseases such as Kawasaki," Fakhiri said in Jayapura on Thursday (8/1/2026).
The Governor stressed that these services are provided free of charge to the public through the BPJS Health scheme as well as other funding prepared by the regional government. This policy is intended to ensure that people are not hindered by costs when accessing referral services.
To support service delivery, RSUD Jayapura has also implemented an internal Participant Eligibility Letter policy to help patients facing administrative obstacles, especially in emergencies. This policy ensures that patients continue to receive treatment without having to wait for complete health insurance documents.
"The principle is that anyone who comes to the hospital must be served. Safety and humanity are our top priorities," Fakhiri said.
The Papua Provincial Government considers these first 100-day achievements to be an initial step toward strengthening a more professional, people-centred healthcare system. Strengthening the capacity of health workers, service innovation, and improving service systems at referral hospitals will continue to be encouraged as part of Papua's human resource development. ***
