JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Office of Manpower, Cooperatives, and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) has confirmed that monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the 2026 Papua Provincial Minimum Wage will be carried out in the first quarter of this year.
The Head of Placement and Training at the Papua Provincial Office of Manpower, Cooperatives, and SMEs, Fransiska H. Rerey, said that monitoring is conducted after companies have implemented the UMP provisions for approximately three months.
"Usually, monitoring and evaluation are carried out in the first quarter," Fransiska said.
She acknowledged that, up to now, there have been no reports or complaints from either workers or companies regarding the implementation of the 2026 Papua Provincial Minimum Wage.
"Complaints usually arise after the first quarter, around April, when workers feel that wages have not been adjusted even though the Provincial Minimum Wage has already been set," she explained.
As a form of protection for workers' rights, the Papua Manpower Office has also opened a Provincial Minimum Wage complaint post for workers who feel disadvantaged because wages have not been implemented in accordance with the regulation.
Fransiska added that the majority of companies in Papua are still in the lower-middle business category, except for state-owned enterprises (SOEs). This condition also affects companies' ability to implement the Provincial Minimum Wage optimally.
"So far, the implementation of the Provincial Minimum Wage in Papua has been relatively conducive. The most important thing is that there is agreement between both parties and no complaints from workers," she concluded. ***
