JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government has reminded residents taking part in the free sea travel program for Eid 2026 to prioritize safety throughout their journey. The appeal was conveyed by the Papua Transportation Agency ahead of the holiday travel period in the region.
Acting Head of the Papua Transportation Agency, Mathius Wally, said that safety is the main factor in transportation services, especially when passenger numbers increase during the holiday exodus.
"The most important thing is the safety factor in transportation operations," Wally said in Jayapura.
He explained that travel safety is not only the responsibility of ship operators, but also requires discipline from passengers.
"Therefore, we urge the public to follow all regulations from the departure process until the journey is completed," he added.
According to him, the holiday travel period is usually marked by a significant rise in passenger numbers. This condition requires all transport service users to maintain order so that travel can proceed safely and smoothly.
The Papua Transportation Agency also reminded the public to comply with applicable rules while at the port and while on board the ship.
"Experience during the previous Christmas and New Year period showed that public interest in the free travel program was quite high. On some routes, the number of passengers even exceeded the quota, so ship operators increased service capacity," he concluded. ***
