JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government has expressed its full support for the implementation of Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Regulation No. 2 of 2026, which serves as the technical guideline for implementing Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the governance of electronic system providers in protecting children in the digital space.
The central government, through the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, is strengthening child protection from various risks in the digital space, such as exposure to negative content, cyberbullying, online fraud, and social media addiction.
Head of the Papua Provincial Communication and Informatics Office, Jeri Agus Yudianto, explained that the regulation is a strategic step toward creating a safer digital environment for children.
"Ministerial Regulation No. 2 of 2026 provides clear technical guidelines for electronic system providers, including digital platforms, to strengthen child protection in the digital space. The Papua Provincial Government fully supports the implementation of this policy as part of efforts to build a healthy and safe digital ecosystem for Papua's younger generation," Jeri said.
He added that the rapid development of information technology must be balanced with adequate regulation and supervision so that children are not exposed to content that is inappropriate for their age.
"In today's digital era, children can very easily access various digital platforms. Therefore, collaboration is needed between the government, digital platforms, schools, parents, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure healthy, safe, and productive internet use," he explained.
The Papua Provincial Communication and Informatics Office will also continue to encourage greater digital literacy among the public, especially parents, students, and other community groups, so they can better understand risks and use technology wisely.
"Through outreach and digital literacy education, we want to ensure that the people of Papua understand the importance of child protection in the digital space and can use technology for positive and productive activities," Jeri added.
The Papua Provincial Government hopes that the implementation of this policy will strengthen the shared commitment to creating a digital space that is safe, healthy, and child-friendly, while also supporting the growth and development of Papua's young generation to become intelligent and competitive in the era of digital transformation. ***
