JAYAPURA — Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri has called on the public to maintain tolerance and togetherness among religious communities during the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. The appeal was delivered after the Eid prayer at the Papua Governor's Office courtyard on Saturday (March 21, 2026).
The Governor emphasized the importance of strengthening social ties amid Papua's diverse society.
"Let us maintain tolerance, greet one another, and open ourselves to all our brothers and sisters in Papua," Fakhiri said.
He also reminded the public to celebrate Eid simply while preserving the values built during the month of Ramadan.
"We may celebrate, but we should not do so excessively. Let us preserve what we have gained during the fasting month," he said.
The Governor also urged the public to increase vigilance regarding weather conditions, which may still be extreme in several parts of Papua.
"The rainy season is still intense. We ask the public to remain alert and report immediately if a disaster occurs," he said.
He expressed hope that the Eid moment would strengthen brotherhood while also increasing public awareness and care for the surrounding environment. ***
