JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government, through the Communication and Informatics Office, stated that a telecommunications network disruption occurred in the Jayapura area on Thursday, April 9, 2026, lasting approximately 3–4 hours. The disruption affected service quality and, at one point, caused a blackout in internet access.
Head of the Papua Communication and Informatics Office, Jeri A. Yudianto, explained that based on coordination with the General Manager of Witel Telkom Papua, the disruption was caused by a problem with the main route module (patara).
At present, network conditions have gradually recovered, and PT Telkom Indonesia is carrying out comprehensive maintenance measures to ensure service stability going forward.
During the repair process, Telkom also redirected network traffic to a contingency route so that internet and digital access could still be used by the public. Even so, the disruption did affect government activities, especially virtual meetings, which could not be attended optimally during the outage period. However, government server services managed by the Communication and Informatics Office remained active thanks to backup system support through the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC), although local access in Jayapura was temporarily limited.
The Papua Provincial Government urged the public to remain calm and not be easily provoked by false information or hoaxes related to the disruption. The telecommunications operator's technical team continues to work to restore and maintain service quality so that people in Papua can once again enjoy normal and sustainable internet and digital services. ***
