JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government has expressed its readiness to support the implementation of World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) 2026 in Jayapura. This support includes cross-sector coordination as well as the provision of facilities to ensure the event runs smoothly.
Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri said that holding WPFD in Papua has strategic value, both in strengthening the role of the press and in promoting the region on a broader stage.
"The regional government is ready to provide full support for the success of this event," Fakhiri said in Jayapura.
According to him, the presence of the international forum is a momentum to reaffirm the role of the press as part of regional development.
In addition, the event also opens opportunities to introduce Papua's potential to national and international audiences.
"Collaboration between the government and the media needs to be continuously strengthened to provide accurate and balanced information to the public," he added.
The Governor of Papua hopes that the implementation of WPFD 2026 in Jayapura will have a positive impact, both on strengthening the press ecosystem and on promoting the region at the global level. ***
