JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government, through the Communication and Informatics Office, is continuing to strengthen efforts to prevent cybercrime by promoting digital literacy among the public. This step aims to increase awareness of various threats in the digital space.
We reach out to people across different layers of society, including villages, religious institutions, schools, and universities. The materials delivered include the dangers of online fraud, account hacking, and the spread of hoaxes.
Head of Media Cooperation Relations at Papua Kominfo, Maria Magdalena, said that improving digital literacy is an important step in preventing cybercrime, which continues to evolve.
"We provide digital literacy education in various places such as churches, mosques, schools, and universities," she said.
According to her, the public's limited understanding of digital security still creates opportunities for cybercriminals. Therefore, preventive efforts are being continuously strengthened through ongoing education.
In addition, Papua Kominfo is also coordinating with law enforcement authorities and related institutions to support prevention and enforcement efforts.
"We also work with the police and coordinate with related parties such as BSSN in anticipating cybercrime," she said.
Monitoring of digital content and implementation of regulations are also continuing, including verification of information circulating among the public to suppress the spread of hoaxes.
"Collaboration between the government, the public, and various parties is the key to creating a safe digital space," Maria said. ***
