JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government, through the Regional Revenue Agency, is providing motor vehicle tax discounts as an effort to improve taxpayer compliance while also optimizing Locally Generated Revenue.
The tax incentive program takes effect from April 1 to June 30, 2026.
Acting Head of the Regional Revenue Agency of Papua, Subhan, said the policy is regulated under Papua Governor Regulation No. 47 of 2026 concerning Administrative Sanctions on Motor Vehicle Tax.
"This program is part of the government's effort to provide relief to the public while also increasing awareness of paying vehicle taxes," Subhan said.
He explained that there are three relief schemes provided to taxpayers. First, a 10 percent discount for taxpayers with arrears. Second, a 15 percent discount for taxpayers who have consistently paid their taxes on time. Third, a discount of up to 30 percent for out-of-region vehicles that transfer their registration to Papua plates.
Subhan urged owners of vehicles with out-of-region license plates that are still operating in Papua to immediately process their vehicle registration transfer.
"There are still many vehicles with out-of-region plates operating in Papua. We urge their owners to immediately transfer them to Papua plates," he said.
According to him, the policy is expected to be used optimally by the public so that it not only provides relief but also contributes to increasing regional revenue.
This tax discount program is one of the Papua Provincial Government's strategies to strengthen the regional revenue base through the motor vehicle tax sector. ***
