JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government will hold its first Sago Festival from April 24 to 26, 2026, at the courtyard of the Papua Governor's Office.
Acting Regional Secretary of Papua, Christian Sohilait, said the festival will serve as a momentum to encourage people to once again make sago an important part of everyday life.
"This festival is a momentum for us to revive the spirit of all people in Papua to live with sago," Sohilait said.
He explained that the festival will feature several main activities, including talk shows, sago product demonstrations, and other related events.
"From this festival, we hope recommendations for regulations will emerge so that sago forests can be preserved and sago can become a staple food," he said.
In addition, the festival is also intended to become a platform for opening export opportunities for sago products, supported by improved cultivation and downstream industry development.
Meanwhile, around 30 to 50 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are expected to take part in the event. ***
