JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government has obtained an allocation of 200 quotas for the development of Red and White Fishing Villages in 2026. The program presents an opportunity for the region after it was not included in the national implementation in 2025.
Head of the Papua Marine and Fisheries Office, Iman Djuniawal, said that the fishing village model to be developed will refer to the Modern Fishing Village of Samber Binyeri in Biak.
"The model used refers to the modern fishing village in Samber Binyeri, Biak, which has become a national role model," he said.
He explained that the regional government has inventoried proposals from regencies and cities. Of the target of 200 quotas, the initial proposals submitted from Papua Province have reached more than 50 percent.
"Initial data showed that around 121 villages had been proposed, then narrowed down to 90 proposals, and currently around 86 locations have entered the next stage," he said.
The Papua Provincial Government is encouraging local governments to continue proposing potential locations so that the opportunity to be included in the national quota becomes even greater. ***
