JAYAPURA — The development of Red and White Fishing Villages in Papua is expected to improve the efficiency of fishermen's operating costs while also maintaining the quality of their catch.
Head of the Papua Marine and Fisheries Office, Iman Djuniawal, said that the system being developed will shorten the distribution chain for fish catches.
"Fishermen will no longer need to travel long distances to sell their catch," he said.
He explained that facilities such as ice plants, cool boxes, and cold storage will support the cold chain system so that fish quality can be maintained.
In addition, the presence of a hub will also allow fishermen to access fuel and other operational needs more easily and at closer range.
"This program will encourage efficiency, increase fishermen's income, and strengthen the region's marine-based economy," he added. ***
