JAYAPURA — Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri emphasized that demonstrations in Papua must be conducted in an orderly and respectful manner and must not disrupt the activities of the general public.
He stressed that expressing opinions in public is the right of every citizen and is guaranteed by law. However, its implementation must still consider the interests and rights of others.
"People are welcome to express their aspirations, but they must do so politely and without disturbing the public interest," he said.
The Governor also reminded security personnel to carry out their duties in accordance with applicable regulations and to avoid excessive actions in the field.
According to him, a humanistic approach should be prioritized to maintain a conducive situation.
"I ask that security measures be carried out in accordance with the law, so as not to create an anti-climax," he said.
In addition, the Papua Provincial Government, together with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, will strengthen coordination in handling demonstrations on the ground.
"The goal is to ensure that the freedom to express opinions remains balanced with the protection of the wider community's activities," he concluded. ***
