JAYAPURA – Papua's development conditions have shown improvement, but progress has not been evenly distributed across all regions. This has become a key consideration in the formulation of regional development policies for 2027.
Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri said macro indicators such as the Human Development Index, or HDI, and the poverty rate have improved in recent years.
"The HDI has increased and poverty has declined, but inequality remains a concern," he explained.
He said poverty still stands at 19.16 percent, while inequality is reflected in a Gini ratio of 0.397.
"On the other hand, economic growth has also slowed from 5.31 percent in 2022 to 3.97 percent in 2025," Fakhiri added.
According to him, this condition shows that economic growth has not fully translated into job creation and more equitable welfare.
"Therefore, future development policies will be directed toward creating more inclusive and sustainable growth," he added. ***
