JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government is involving religious leaders in maintaining social stability as part of its support for regional development.
This was discussed during a meeting with the Interfaith Harmony Forum and the Fellowship of Papuan Churches in Jayapura on Monday (May 4, 2026).
Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri said religious leaders play an important role in keeping community conditions conducive amid diversity.
"The role of religious leaders is very important in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere and supporting development in Papua," he said.
According to him, the involvement of religious leaders is part of the government's approach to ensuring that development proceeds in harmony with the social conditions of the community.
He added that communication between the government and religious leaders must continue to be maintained so that various regional issues can be addressed together.
"Papua is our shared home; therefore, togetherness must continue to be preserved," he said. ***
